The Murder of Janet Doesky
Janet Doesky, a 21 year old woman, was murdered last night by gunshot at the beach on July 4th, 2017, at 8:01 p.m. Unfortunately, there has been no direct evidence pointing to one specific subject, and our investigation is still ongoing. At the scene of a crime, there seemed to be a struggle, indicated by the footprints in the sand. Two sets of footprints led to the waterfront, along the beach, and then back towards the city. At one point, one set of footprints ends and the other continues. This indicates the culprit stopped and let Janet walk in front of him or herself before charging at Janet. At the end of the set of footprints, a struggle is obviously seen in the sand. Janet was found dead here, with a bullet to the side of her head. The only clue in regards to finding the murderer is based on facts told to us by Janet's friends. She was last seen leaving a 4th of July party with a man about 6'1.

In my writing piece, I noticed that I first started by stating the facts that were set in stone, and ended with the final location that Janet had been seen. I did this because this is typically how a report is structured; I have read many police reports and have watched many shows that include detective reports, so I know how they typically are structured. The tone of my piece is very serious. There is no humor, only a series of facts. I found myself adding details of what happened before the crime, rather than details about the solution of the case. Maybe I did so because I personally enjoy mystery, and found it much more exciting to write about something unsolved rather than something that is already complete and known.

Hello everyone. I am John Doesky, the father of Janet. I am very heartbroken that we are all here today, mourning the death of my dear daughter. Janet was murdered on the 4th of July by an evil, psychotic man, and as her father, I don't know if I will ever be able to forgive him. Janet was a wonderful girl. Janet had just graduated from University of California: Santa Barbara with a degree in Biochemistry, and aimed to attend medical school in hopes of one day becoming a doctor to help save the lives of others. Unfortunately, she was the one in need of saving. Janet has always been a wonderful daughter, making both her mother and I very happy throughout our lives. She is remembered by us, her parents, her older brother, Joe, and her younger sister, Tiffany. I will never forget the huge smile Janet always had on her face; she was always such a happy woman. She will be gravely missed.
