In Class-Writing: Discourse Community

A discourse community I participate in is the community of San Nicolas Residence Hall. San Nic is a residence hall full of multiple undergraduate students located at UCSB. My place within San Nic is as a resident, which is probably the lowest member in the hierarchy of this community. Some forms of communication in this community are speaking, whether formally at floor/building meetings, or informally, such as talking with friends in the lounge. Other forms of communication include emails, which are used to notify residences of anything happening in the building in the near future. The third prominent form of communication are posters. Posters are located on nearly every wall of the building and usually provide rules, information about events happening in the building, or just simple messages to the residents.
