Hey everyone! My name is John Costello and I am a first-year student at UCSB. I will use this blog for a variety of Writing 2 Assignments, but this first post is just to help whoever is reading this get to know me better.

How old are you? When is your birthday?
I am 18 years old, and my birthday is April 23, 2001, the day after Earth Day.
Where are you from?
I am from Stockton, California. It's a pretty bad place, but it's home.
What is your family like?
I have 3 older brothers and we all get along very well now that we are older. Back in the day as the youngest of 4 I would constantly get picked on, but whatever, it has made me stronger mentally. My parents are both teachers and my Grandma also lives with us.
Why the name "John Costello?"
Well my name is John because my parents wanted to name me after my Uncle John. Also, my parents are both Catholic, and named me after John the Baptist. Costello is an Irish royalty last name (fancy, I know). I am Irish, Hungarian, and Portuguese, mainly. Basically, I'm very white.

What is your major at UCSB, and why?
I am majoring in Physics and am doing so because I have always loved Astronomy. I plan on pursuing graduate studies and eventually want to receive my PhD in Astronomy. I've always loved stargazing and all things related, so if anyone is curious about that sort of stuff, I'm your man.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Most of the time, I am chilling with my friends and just talking or having a good time together. I don't really go out and party much, I prefer to keep things more chill and hang out in the dorm or at the beach or anywhere, really. I enjoy watching Netflix and Youtube, and am also very fond of acting, performing, and singing, as I have been doing so since a very young age. I also love listening to music, playing Smash Bros on my Switch, going on late night walks, and working out, if I can get myself to actually walk all the way to the Rec Cen.
What are your opinions on writing, and are you excited for the class?
Personally, I have never been too great of a writer, and I prefer to work with numbers. However, when writing about a topic I love, it's very hard to keep my hands off of the keyboard. I am not necessarily excited for this class, but I think it will be good for me to learn how to write more academically and to sharpen my writing skills.
